Developmental Delays in Children

 What are considered development delays for children? 

Development delays can take a variety of forms including; speech issues, lack of motor skills, and other complicated conditions such as ADD or ADHD which could lead to developmental delays.  Not only can development delays be frustrating for the children who are experiencing them, but also their parents.  Studies have shown that chiropractic care can beneficial for these children.

 

Where do development delays coming from?

Developmental delays can have variety of causes such as genetics, complications during pregnancy, premature birth, or complications during delivery. The birthing process can be very hard on little babies, it can involve lots of pulling and twisting on their little necks. Spinal misalignments are linked to traumatic births. Spinal misalignments, or subluxation, is when vertebra of the spine is out of place. Even the littlest misalignments can affect the nerves are communicating with the body and how it is functioning. Nerve disruption can affect minor things like colic, latching issue, or the bigger concerns like development delays.

 

How does Chiropractic Care relate?

Chiropractic is not typically the first thought for most parents who have little ones with development delays. Some parent may just not know the benefits of chiropractic or they feel unsure or are scared of chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments are in fact are very gentle and safe for all ages. Dr. Erika works with little kids all the time, she will gently locate the misalignments of the spine realign the bones with a very gentle adjustment. No cracking, twisting or popping ever.

 

Are there any studies that back this up?

Several case studies have proven that chiropractic care is safe and effective for children. On case study of a four-year-old boy with a history of developmental motor delays including dyspraxia. The child’s speech and motor skills significantly improved following chiropractic adjustments. After just eight adjustments the little boy was able to learn twenty new words. 

 Dr. Erika has seen it personally in kiddos she has cared for. She has seen increase an in motor skill and improvement in behavior / interactions skills among other children their age & adults.
